Fall Out from the Edison Photo Scandal

This Photo Scandal thing is starting to go overboard eh? Look at the present situation and the damage that has been done. Anyway, the following details was put together from the info I gather through a forum, wikipedia as well as thegutterpost blog . I gather, most of the details are the same that is used by other blogs. Why I’m repeating what other people already posted? TRAFFIC! :p

KIRA was the first person who posted the nude pics. S/He might have chosen the name as an euphemism for causing havoc and damages (hopefully not death) with the release of the pics.

The sex photos scandal that has rocked Hong Kong and publicly embarrassed celebrities, including Edison Chen (陳冠希), Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐), Bobo Chan (陳文媛) and Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝), implicated Edison’s current girlfriend Vincy Yeung (楊永晴) yesterday.

Dozens more photos of women, scantily dressed and completely nude in provocative and explicit poses, purported to be Gillian, Cecilia and Vincy surfaced on the internet in the early hours of the morning. Three photos show a woman, purported to be Vincy, having a shower.

Apparently 14 women involved is not enough. Sources have said that the list would now incorporate up to 18 women with the latest victim photo released. The list so far include Gillian Hung, Cecilia Cheung, Bobo Chan, Mandy Chen Yu Ru, Candice Chen, Rachel Ngan and Maggie Q.

In some photos a woman, purported to be Gillian, poses provocatively in white lingerie. In other images, that appear to be from the same set as an image leaked two days ago, the woman poses in black lingerie.

In around 20 photos, a woman, purported to be Cecilia, poses topless wearing only knickers. Around a dozen photos depict the woman posing nude on a toilet seat cover. Several dozen photos show the woman stripping from a police uniform, giving a man, purported to be Edison, a blowjob and masturbating. Clearly, judging by the clothes and backgrounds, some of the photos were taken at the same time as other photos previously leaked.

None of the celebrities purported to appear in the photos have been accused by Hong Kong police of any wrongdoing. Instead, the police investigation has focused on tracking down the people who are leaking or spreading the images. Police have not held a press briefing since the Chinese New Year holiday began. Police have so far arrested eight people, but this has not halted new photos being leaked onto the web throughout the holiday period.

Oriental Daily News, a Hong Kong newspaper, reported that 300 netizens had signed up to a protest march to demonstrate against the police action. Police have been widely criticized, both in mainstream media and on internet discussion boards, for what people perceive as special treatment for the case, because it involves celebrities, and abuse of the privacy rights of internet users. Oriental Daily News reported that the protest is due to start on Sunday afternoon and to go from Victoria Park to Wan Chai police headquarters. Hong Kong’s bestselling daily quoted the organizer as saying that the police knew of the march and did not object.

Ming Pao, a Hong Kong newspaper, reported that Gillian is scheduled to start filming a movie late next week. The newspaper speculated whether or not she would meet this commitment, because the singer-actress has not been seen in public since news of the scandal broke.

Hong Kong Disneyland pulled from its website a Chinese New Year advertisement featuring Gillian’s band Twins. However, a spokesperson for Disney denied that the withdrawal had anything to do with the scandal and said that the length of the campaign was decided upon long beforehand.

Reporters for The Sun, a Hong Kong newspaper, tried to track down Vincy at her university campus in Boston. The newspaper had successfully tracked her down a couple of days before, but failed at its latest attempt. Hong Kong’s third bestselling daily speculated whether their failure was because it was a large campus or whether it was because Vincy is deliberately keeping a low profile.

There was new speculation that “Kira” is actually a group of three who actually got hold of the photos and videos last year and had tried to extort money from Edison Chen. Edison Chen told Albert Yeung about it and through some ways, they set a trap and managed to ensnare one of them. The other two however got away and are believed to have escaped to Thailand and Indonesia and continued to extort money from them.

They continued negotiations but it never worked out as they kept jacking up the prices with every additional day. “Kira” is now biding his time and has even more shocking material that has yet to see daylight because they are his bargaining chips. Bobo Chan’s pictures plus those of Gillian, Cecilia were just sacrificial lambs. Vincy Yeung’s photos was to shock EEG and Albert Yeung that they are not to be taken lightly. “Kira” is just slowly posting the pictures to cover his tracks and increase his bargaining chips.

Now, after all this had happened, what happened to the ladies that got caught in the scandal?

For Gillian Chung:

Whilst Emperor declared that Gillian Chung was on sick leave, her fellow "Twin" Charlene has come out twice to deny rumours that Chung had attempted suicide. Emperor announced that Chung would render account to her fans on 10 February.

According to the spokesman of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, their music video for the celebration of the Chinese New Year featuring Twins, the music group to which Gillian Chung belongs, has been dropped from its airing schedule because of Chung’s involvement in the controversy. A new video has been selected as a replacement which features other artists.

For Bobo Chan:

Bobo Chan, one of the Hong Kong female celebrities embroiled in the recent sex scandal involving Edison Chan had her wedding called off with wealthy stock market investor Phillip Kam. It was rumored that Bobo’s future mother-in-law was extremely displeased by Bobo’s implications in the scandal and gave pressure to her son Phillip to cancel the wedding. Bobo Chan already retired from the entertainment business earlier to get ready for her marriage. Who would’ve thought that this sex scandal would dash her dreams of settling down with the love of her life? It was last said that she has since moved out of the home she shared with Philip Kam.

For Cecilia Cheung:

With the scandle of the nude pictures escalating, aside from the distress of the female artises,
even the families are affected. There are rumours that due to the scandle, Nicholas and Cecilia had argued and one party had mentioned divorce, seems like the marriage is coming to an end.

Yesterday, Cecilia’s manager Emily responded to the rumours on the matter; She stressed that there’s no such thing, no need to reply. Reporters called up Deborah but before the journalist could open his mouth to ask, Deborah was already saying: do not, do not haress me! Thank you very much! Thank you very much! Thank you very much!

For Edison Chen

He has been dumped from the upcoming movie Jump <跳出去>, a joint production between Columbia Pictures and Stephen Chow’s (周星馳) company Star Overseas. All scenes involving Edison are said to have been cut from the film which also stars Kitty Zhang (張雨綺) and the launch of the movie has been postponed from May to October. Director Stephen Fung (馮德倫) has said that he now awaits the return of Stephen Chow and the arrival of a Columbia Pictures representative so they can begin recasting. He has also been dumped from the Production of the Batman: The Dark Knight according to IMDB.

On 10 February 2008, it has been reported that Manhattan Titanium, a credit card company which Chen endorses has pulled off all advertisements that feature him.
